Apple has suffered a temporary service outage that included the iTunes Store and Mac App Store. The outage began just before 5 a.m. EDT. Apple says the problem was caused by a DNS error.
The Apple - Support - System Status page currently shows the App Store, iTunes Store and Mac App Store as being "unavailable for all users". The iBooks Store "may be unavailable for all users".
